Cinderella: The Gal from Out West - France’s first stereoscopic 3D film uses MachStudio Pro

Jun 02, 2010 - CG Society

French animation studio Delacave, brought to life author Charles Perrault’s story “Cinderella: The Gal from Out West”.  They used MachStudio Pro in many facets of its production pipeline, including: shading with maps and created libraries, validating 3D stereoscopic and lighting parameters in the pre-rendering phase, and rendering with the definitive lighting and all the different passes and layers needed for compositing.

GPU Revolution Part 2 | MachStudio Pro

May 13, 2010 - RenderStream Blog

Renderstream has a comprehensive interview with StudioGPU on the software, the uses and the future of GPU rendering. “I know there are plenty of readers out there who think that GPU accelerated rendering is still in its infancy, not ready for prime time. Although some of you may not be ready to incorporate something like MSP into your pipeline, the fact that there are artists out there who are using it in production should be a sign to take notice.”

V, The Visitors, and Zoic Studios Join Forces using MachStudio Pro

Apr 12, 2010 - CGW

Pipeline Supervisor at Zoic Studios talks about their work on ABC’s V, The Visitors.  “It has so many virtual set shots, and the V sets are quite robust. We wanted a new way to get a beauty render as quickly as possible.”  The Atrium virtual set, which appeared in 17 shots over two episodes, contains 2,589 frames, which when using an optimized render took one hour per frame. With MachStudio Pro they got 16 minutes per frame un-optimized. When they optimize the workflow they expect it to render in about 4 minutes.

MachStudio Pro is a jaw-dropping software application

Jan 25, 2010 - Renderosity

MachStudio Pro is a jaw-dropping software application. It’s hard to describe the impact of seeing complex lighting and shaders being applied in real-time. Although the program doesn’t render every single scene in absolute real-time, the rendering is so much faster that it seems almost real-time to anyone who has had to take a coffee break while waiting for a lighting pass to render on their render farm. The immediate advantage of MachStudio is it’s time-saving ability as part of an animation workflow, but the quality of the lighting, cameras, materials and shaders is so high it will enable artists to use their imaginations in ways they weren’t able to before since they can immediately follow-up on an idea and see how it looks in a final render.

MachStudio Pro wins Bright Side of News 2009 “Workstation Innovation Award”

Dec 23, 2009 - Bright Side of News

Bright Side of News gives a detailed review of Machstudio Pro and awards it their 2009 Workstation Innovation Award.  Quote form the article: The scenes we tested with rendered anywhere between 10 and 20 times faster than on our powerful quad-core/octa-thread processors. Do note that if we would really push the details into overdrive, we would get a single 1080p frame in 10 seconds on bundled FirePro V8750, while 3.33 GHz CPU would probably take 20-30 minutes per single frame. This is quite an advantage from business perspective, as you can offer your client final-quality looking video in a matter of minutes rather than having your client being forced to wait or ultimately deciding to go to another studio that has more workstations.

An invaluable tool for delivering full CG animation production and creating previzualization

Dec 22, 2009 - Animation Magazine

The Dec-Jan 2010 issue of Animation Magazine tech reviews MachStudio Pro noting: “The results are quite impressive. It could very well change previz for films, as well as animation for CG features. We could be seeing a dramatic change in quality of animation for television, and probably more content, because it can be developed faster and cheaper.”

Pre-visualization helps producers map-out live action scenes

Nov 07, 2009 - Vancouver Sun

Vancouver-based Twenty One Inc talks about pre-visualization - a way for a producer to map out a complex and pricey live-action scene using 3-D digital animation.  Twenty One uses MachStudio Pro to light the scenes. A film’s production designer can tell the previs technicians what they want -  overhead natural light through a skylight and sharp shadows, for example - and that can be put in the digital scene

Potential to revolutionize the design visualisation workflow

Oct 28, 2009 - 3DWorld Magazine

Issue 123 of 3DWorld Magazine reviews MachStudio Pro v1.2: “For years we’ve heard the phrase real-time rendering. Many of us who have been involved in 3D creation since the early 1990s have seen these three words thrown around quite loosely without much backing. However, thanks to StudioGPU’s introduction of MachStudio Pro those days might have actually come to an end…This software’s potential to revolutionise the design visualisation workflow is absolutely massive.”

Let Me Be Your Renderer

Aug 05, 2009 - Desktop Engineering

Review of all of the rendering news from Siggraph 2009. In the case of MachStudio Pro, the use of the phrase “real-time” is not an exaggeration. Last month, when I met company officials in person, I saw with my own eyes how their product — software bundled with a AMD ATI FirePro 3D workstation graphics card — produced instant updates while someone worked on a 3D scene decked out textures and backgrounds.

Do graphics cards hold the secret to real time rendering?

Jul 27, 2009 - Develop3D

I have to say I was gobsmacked with the speed and quality of renders, and the control you have over scenes with near instant feedback is simply astounding. Moving rendering to the GPU is an extremely exciting development and the potential to revolutionize the design visualisation workflow is huge. According to studioGPU this could also spell an end to traditional CPU-based render farms. Very exciting technology.

Product Review: MachStudio Pro

Jul 08, 2009 - CG Channel

StudioGPU has produced a pretty impressive production solution with their MachStudio Pro package. This is an exciting time for us render buffs, as we are seeing the beginning of what I believe is the next big step in computer graphics with the harnessing of the GPU. And while it is not going to change fast, I believe we are going to start seeing a move away from the traditional light - render - wait pipeline, and more toward this real-time scene assembly and rendering, and it seems as the talented people over at StudioGPU have poised themselves to be one of the leaders of this transition.

MachStudio Pro democratizes content creation

Jun 30, 2009 - studiodaily blogs

MachStudio Pro isn’t simply about a dramatic speed-up in rendering time: it’s about subverting the production-line assembly of CG images, in which each task–lighting, texturing, cameras–is an island. Instead, MachStudio Pro aims for a nonlinear pipeline in which any aspect of the image can be tweaked at any point in the creation process.
